That's so very true - and a great part 2 to this! I have seen many parents rely on iPhones and iPads as babysitters. My daughter had a 5 year old friend that actually got an iPad for her birthday. I cannot imagine giving a gift like that to a 5 year old - letting her use one is different than calling it her own. However to eaach their own.

I actually really like a few of the iPhone games that I've gotten for my kids, but I'm not sure what kind of skills I can say it's given my 4 year old other than hand/eye coordination. I'd rather see him play some good old fashioned Tetris ;)

This is an interesting discussion. I know a lot of parents who let their kids play with the aps on their iPad. But don't see them quite in the same light as "video games"- like Nintendo or game boy or other stuff like that. Hmm.. I'm not sure where the dividing line is

I feel that way so many times. That's why in our house we do the 5 minutes in each room. I try to do it daily because otherwise it gets crazy fast. A lot of the time, if the room is almost clean the kids will just stay in and finish it because they like a cleaner house to.

The house rules really helped to because they helped pick the chores. We all signed it, and I hung it up as a reminder. If they're not doing their part it's an easy reminder. Good luck on your challenge!

I also miss the organization that I imagine could be there if my kids and I did a better job of staying on top of their mess. I sometimes feel like if I only did that, there still wouldn't be enough time in the day! I like the 5 minute or 15 minute option a lot. I'll try it out starting today. I just added it to my "to do" list... as a repeating item!
I'm also doing a Simplicity Challenge on my blog that will hopefully help me come out of 2012 with my world more organized and less cluttered. If you want to check it out, here's the link to my blog (http://twyste.com) and to the post explaining the challenge:

Yummy! I made some crackers a while ago and I adored them - I think I'd adore yours too. They'd go well with my recently blogged chicken liver pate :D
