Simmering Potpourri

Simmering PotpourriChristmas has left us, but the cold weather hasn’t.  I have many friends that have been visited by some seasonal snow, while others are just trying to grin through the cold rain.

This allows for a lot of lazy weekends, where you just kick back, put on a movie, and maybe sip some hot cocoa.  When I’m stuck inside, there’s nothing nicer than the smell of something simmering on the stove.  Of course, depending on how lazy I am, I might not want it to be something I have to watch.  I’ll admit, one of my favorite things to do is make homemade applesauce.  The smell fills the house, and at times can be so relaxing that I totally forget to check my apples!

One great tip to fill your house is to find a new use for your crockpot (or of course your sauce pan) and fill it with a homemade potpourri. Unlike food where you can’t always mix your favorite flavors. Mix and match flavors like cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange slices, chamomile, and whatever else you might have lying around the house.

Once you’ve figured out the flavors you want to use, add water and put on a low heat.  Let me know if you try it out – and if you try some different scents!
